ARC Review: Jagged by Kristen Ashley

An old flame rekindled . . .

Zara Cinders always knew Ham Reece was the one, but he wasn't interested in settling down. When she found someone who was, Ham walked out of her life. Three years later, Zara's lost her business, her marriage, and she's barely getting by in a tiny apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. As soon as Ham hears about Zara's plight, he's on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.

Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham's faced his own demons, and he's learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he's meant to live. So when he hears that Zara's having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he's a changed man.

Another KA smash! Jagged brings us back to the Colorado Mountain town of Gnaw Bone where we first met Max and his Dutchess Nina. I must say, I was excited to get to go back here and perhaps see a little bit more of these two we fell in love with. We also get to remember our friends from the Burg, February and Colon. This is because our hero in Jagged, is an ex of Februarys. That's right folks! Graham Reece finally gets his own story.

Reece is a nomad. Never staying in one place long, hoping from town to town, bar to bar, bed to bed. He's not a player, just doesn't give his heart away. Zara is one of those women he's left behind.

Zara's been in love with Reece for as long as she's known him. Their first months together were a whirlwind but she always knew he'd move on, relegating her to a stop on his travels when he can visit. So when a new man comes in her life, she marries him. Clearly settling for companionship over love. But when the marriage ends, and Zara hears of the stalker who almost chopped Reece to bits, she calls him.

Reece is back and is there to stay but now it's Zara who won't open her heart. Scared of being hurt, she puts up the fight of her life to keep Reece out. But Reece just won't give up. Jagged is everything Kristen Ashley does best and I absolutely loved it!

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA. She nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn't taken her first breath!).

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana but has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multi-generational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland and existed amongst the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better

Blog Tour: Only For You by Genna Rulon

Title:               Only For You
Series:            For You #1
Published:      September 24, 2013
Category:       New Adult
Genre:            Contemporary Romance

“In its purest form love is self-sacrificing, eternal, selfless, enduring, truthful, forgiving and indulgent.  It also feels an awful lot like a kick to the stomach when you try to fight it!”

All Everleigh Carsen wanted to do was complete her final semester at Hensley University and begin the life she carefully planned.

When a wave of violent crime seizes campus, Everleigh is persuaded by her best friend to attend a school sponsored self-defense seminar, where she meets volunteer instructor, Hunter Charles. After Everleigh’s biting sarcasm induces Hunter to eject her from class, an explosive relationship is born.

Everleigh is determined to forget the striking man, but fate—that fickle shrew—continuously intervenes. Unable to escape him, she declares Hunter an enemy combatant.  The only complication…Hunter is resolutely pursuing vindication…by any means necessary. Verbal warfare ensues, and despite Everleigh’s ingenious efforts, in Hunter, she has finally found her equal.

Only For You is a compelling tale of friendship, desire, and redemption—brimming with intelligent characters, witty dialogue, unexpected twists, profound sorrow, unfettered hope, and love’s unassailable perseverance.

• This story is appropriate for readers 18+
• Though Only For You is a part of the For You Series, the book can be read as a stand-alone.

The synopsis basically tells you the story, at least as much as I am willing to give away. So I'd rather just get down to how I felt about this story.

Man, I don't know why. I didn't expect much from this book but something drew me to it when the author asked if I would be willing to read and review. Let me tell you, I am so glad that I did. Although occasionally the characters seemed too perfect, too insightful, this was so easily overlooked because the story itself was fabulous. The characters were funny, oh so funny, and I found myself laughing out loud on many occasions. The story has suspense and excitement. It tackled difficult situations in a sensitive, interesting and even informative manner.

And Hunter... Oh my swoon. He was absolutely fabulous. Strong, smart, fiercely protective, sensitive, loving, demonstrative and so funny. Everleigh was sarcastic, smart, quick, witty, emotional and pretty much what I imagine myself to be.

More then just being a good, funny, sweet story, I feel like this book taught and reaffirmed for me, my beliefs which is probably one of the highest compliments you can give a author and their book. It reminded me of the type of person I want to be. The type of person who stands up against injustice, to now cower and wait for someone else to be a leader. Sometimes the hardest thing to do is the right thing and it reminded me that I ALWAYS want to be the person who does the right thing, regardless of how hard it may be.

As I approached, Hunter rose to greet me, gallantly appropriating my tray to place it on the table.  He dramatically pulled out my chair and assisted me as I sat.  I appreciated gentility as much as the next girl, but the whole scene struck me as abnormal.
“Care to tell me what that was about?” I distrustfully queried.
“I was merely practicing proper etiquette.”  The twinkle in his eyes belied his innocent excuse.
“You were trying to call attention to our matching faux pas, weren’t you?”
“I will neither confirm nor deny.”
“Ass,” I muttered beneath my breath.
“That is the second time you have called me an asshole,” Hunter said sternly.
“I have never called you an asshole—to your face—I simply left a trail of breadcrumbs from which you could deduce my meaning.”
“Ah ha.  You finally admit that our song is ‘Sweet As Hole’.”
“I will neither confirm nor deny,” I said, mocking his earlier statement.
“It was exceptionally ingenious of you.”
“I know, right?”
I caught his smile and realized my mistake.  He had tricked me, and I confessed the song I had insulted him with.
“Dammit, Hunter.  How do you always outmaneuver me?  They should have you interrogate suspected terrorists.  You would trick them into revealing their evil plot every time.”
“Nah, terrorism isn’t my specialty.”  He winked before suddenly whistling, “That is some lunch you have there.”
“I’m as hungry as the bear I just spent the last hour pretending to be.  A salad was not going to tame my ravenous need.  Besides, who am I trying to impress?”
“Not me, that’s for sure,” he answered quickly with synthetic sorrow.
“Here I thought you were a martial arts instructor.  Are you moonlighting as a comedian?”
“Martial arts is my moonlighting gig,” he paused as if weighing his words.  “Where is Sam?”
“I’m not sure.  She planned to join us.”  I searched the dining room and saw her at the cashier with Robbie beside her.  “There she is, her new guy Robbie is with her.  Don’t ruin it for her by—just try not to be yourself for a little while.”
“You are a cruel woman, Everleigh.”

Blog Tour: Torn by Kim Karr

Rock star River Wilde brought Dahlia London back from the brink of hopelessness with his unwavering love and devotion. But their entangled history is about to test the strength of their relationship…

Dahlia was certain she had found true love and met her "Once in a Lifetime’ when she reconnected with River. But Dahlia’s world comes crashing down when someone from her past resurfaces, and all of River’s carefully hidden secrets are exposed.

River wants to show Dahlia that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass—it’s about dancing in the rain. But how many times can one broken heart be mended?  Will River and Dahlia be able to stay together or will they be torn apart?

***An ARC was received in exchange for a fair and honest review***

Torn picks up right where Connected ended. River and Dahlia have decided to get married and are minutes away from heading to the airport when Grace calls. She tells her Dahlia that she needs to come to the house so they head over.  When they arrive, Dahlia's world gets ripped apart. Ben is alive. Shock, confusion, happiness, love and anger all hit Dahlia as she tries to cope with the fact that her first love, the man she was supposed to marry, lied and faked his own death.

As Dahlia attempts to process all this, River is terrified of losing her. He knows that Dahlia is meant for him but Ben's return has shaken their whole relationship. Jealousy, and insecurity cause River to lose his temper on more the one occasion causing him to put his relationship at risk. He's also been keeping some secrets from Dahlia, and when those come out, Dahlia doesn't know who to trust. Not to mention the smoking hot tour promoter who seems to always be around trying to get herself a piece of him.

I hate Ben. I couldn't muster up an ounce of sympathy for him or the consequences of his decision. He's selfish and continues to show it throughout the story. I really had to resist the urge to punch my iPad when he would speak.

Rivers secrets didn't seem like much to be mad about. I know I wouldn't be mad. I always thought his secret was that he knew Ben was alive. That one I would have been mad about (maybe) but the real secrets... Eh, I don't blame him for those. In fact, he deserves a blow job.

Overall this book was exactly what I wanted and needed it to be.  The end of Connected had me so nervous but I loved how Torn came together and gave me the HEA I needed.

Blog Tour: Found In You by Laurelin Paige

Title: Found in You (Fixed #2)
Author: Laurelin Paige
Release date: October 1, 2013
Publisher: Mandevilla Press
Age Group: Adult
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Tour organized by: AToMR Tours

Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes and Noble (Pending)

Alayna Withers has only had one kind of relationship: the obsessive, crazy stalker kind. Now that Hudson Pierce has let her into his heart, she’s determined to stay away from her past tendencies and develop their love into more than just amazing sex. At least Hudson is as dedicated to her as she is to him, though she could do without his new found jealousy and need to control everything. To complicate matters, Hudson has his own baggage including a penchant for mind games and a hateful alcoholic mother who’s set on destroying any happiness he might find with Alayna.

Needing insight, Alayna turns to an unlikely source—Celia Werner. Celia’s been in love with Hudson herself and knows how to ride the rocky waves of the emotionally closed-off man. But when Celia’s true motivations behind their friendship are revealed, Hudson’s commitment might not be as solid as Alayna thinks, and even their all-consuming passion for each other isn’t enough to fix their mistrusts. This is the first relationship where Alayna hasn’t spiraled out of control. And she might lose Hudson anyway…

***An ARC was provided in exchange for a fair and honest review***

You know, I absolutely loved Fixed on You when I read it. The characters are so flawed yet so honest about their flaws and failures that it really reached out and grabbed me. So when the opportunity to receive an ARC for Found in You came along, I jumped at the chance and then waited, not so patiently, for my copy.

And here we are, all read, and I couldn't be happier to be back in the lives of Hudson and Alayna. Reading as Alayna and Hudson try to stumble through some fairly serious relationship issues, centered mostly around trust, was completely captivating. My anxiety level was high as I tried to guess everyone's motives throughout the story and how they would play into each other. It's not a mystery or crime novel, yet you find yourself trying to decipher the motives of the characters and determine how other characters will react. That's what makes this series such a good read. You know the character flaws, you know backstories, but you're constantly trying to figure out who these characters are now and how they will interact with each other.

I really loved Alayna's effort to break away from her past behaviors and have confidence in herself, and Hudson is as sexy as ever. I am so excited for the next one to see how it plays out. Lots and lots of secrets were revealed in this story and i can't wait to see how it all comes together.

Laurelin Paige is a sucker for a good romance and gets giddy anytime there’s kissing, much to the embarrassment of her three daughters. Her husband doesn’t seem to complain, however. When she isn’t reading or writing sexy stories, she’s probably singing, watching Mad Men and the Walking Dead, or dreaming of Adam Levine. She is represented by Bob Diforio of D4EO Literary Agency.

ARC Review: Revealing Us (Inside Out Trilogy, #3) by Lisa Renee Jones

You've discovered Rebecca's secrets. You've discovered Sara's secrets. Now Sara will discover "his" deepest, darkest secrets...but will those secrets bind them together--or tear them apart?

***ARC provided in exchange for a fair and honest review***

Oh Chris Merrit, you swept away with my heart in Revealing Us

In the wake of Ava's confession of killing Rebecca and attempted murder of Sara, Chris and Sara head off to Paris to once and for all, see if they can make the love and need between the two of them work. Chris has secrets and its in Paris where Chris needs to lay those secrets at her feet and discover whether or not their love is enough for Sara to overcome Chris's dark past.

But trouble is rampant from the moment they step foot off the plane in Paris. Literally before even making it to customs, Sara is pick pocketed and her passport is stolen.  When they arrive home, Sara meets Chris's long time friend and former lover Amber who is still very much a part of his Parisian life. And is very much in love with Chris. Amber is determined to come between Chris and Sara, by any means necessary.

Sara is also on the lookout for Ella, asking around and finding shocking details about what Ella has been up to in Paris. But one thing is certain, Ella is still missing. And Sara's looking into Ella's disappearance is putting herself in harms way. Will Chris be able to keep her safe without stifling her and dredging up her past?

There's a lot happening in this story but if you pay attention, every bit of it works to make a brilliant continuance of this captivating series about Sara McMillan.

Two more book have been announced for this series so now I'm just anxious to see what happens with the upcoming trial as well as what goes down between Mark and his very non-submissive lady from The Master Undone. Additionally, the story of Ella was announces so I am excited to see what happens to Ella on her journey through Paris.

Release Day Blast: Stripped (A Ferro Family Novel) by HM Ward

Title: STRIPPED – A Ferro Family Novel
  Author: H.M. WARD
  Publisher: Laree Bailey Press
  Release: September 2, 2013
  Genre: Contemporary Romance
  Age Group: New Adult
Related Works: DAMAGED & THE ARRANGEMENT
By New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling New Adult author H.M. Ward.

The V Card. Virgin. Most of us want to punch that sucker ASAP, and hide the fact until then, but not Cassie Hale. Three years ago she frickin' covered hers in glitter and laminated the thing, proudly telling me that she's waiting for the perfect guy. So when I see her half naked, tangled together, rolling around on the floor with another stripper, I'm kind of shocked. Okay, that's an understatement. I'm enthralled. I have to know what cracked her picture perfect world and landed her here, and I hope it's something horrible-an event that broke her the way she broke me. Because, that's who Cassie Hale is--the woman who stole my heart and crushed it in her hand.

***An ARC was provided in return for a fair and honest review***

I am so excited to be back immersed within the tragic Ferro family. A family that teaches you that money can't buy you everything, including life and class. We adore Peter, and we lust after Sean but now we get to know Jonathan, the youngest and most troublesome Ferro.

Jon doesn't seem to be able to keep himself out of trouble, constantly acting on instinct instead of thought, he is quick to get himself into a new situation. But his mom is at the end of her rope and orders him to spend the summer with his uncle. While serving his banishment, he meets Cassie and almost instantly, the charming playboy is knocked on his ass. Cassie knows her mind and knows what she wants. She wants the first man she kisses to be the man to be the man she marries, and she doesn't intend to have sex until her wedding night. This concept is so far out of Jon's ability to understand that he begins to get to know her in order to try and understand. They spent their summer together, getting to know each other until something happens and their friendship turns bad.

So imagine his surprise when hosting Peter's bachelor party 3 years later, Cassie is one of the strippers.

I love being in the Ferro family. It's definitely a family I have no interest in being a part of but watching their drama unfold is a blast. These men are wicked and sexy, and Jon definitely lives up to those expectations but I also feel the need to hold him in my arms and cuddle him. I think out of all the brothers, I feel the worst for him. If only someone would believe in him.

ARC Review: What He Really Feels by Lisa Suzanne

He told her How He Really Feels and had his heart broken. Now Travis Miller is trying to move on from the greatest heartbreak of his life by getting out of town. But two nights before his big move to California, Travis meets a mystery woman who grabs hold of his broken heart and gives him hope that he can piece it back together. Will Travis ever figure out What He Really Feels, or will he be stuck on his first love forever? Will he find his happily ever after?

Release Date: October 3, 2013

What He Really Feels is the second book in the He Feels Trilogy. If you have not read the first book, How He Really Feels, I suggest not reading further in this review. If you'd like to read my review for that, click here.

***Review copy provided in return for a fair and honest review***

You know, I hated Tyler in the last book. I thought he was a total tool. He'd love Julianne forever and he chose her lowest weakest moment to confess to her. She was drunk and heartbroken and he used that to try and advance their relationship. I couldn't stand him. Thought he got all the pain he deserved. But then... 2 pages into this book, he was completely redeemed. I love a man that willing to admits his mistakes.

With that said though, I found myself incredibly annoyed that so much of this book focuses on Jules begging Tyler to forgive her and Tyler being mad at her. You screwed up Tyler. Suck it up and move on.

And so he does. 2 days prior to moving to San Diego, Tyler has a one night stand that absolutely blew his mind, and not strictly in the sexual sense. His connection with this girl was so strong that he wasn't able to keep her off his mind, despite not knowing anything about her, including her name. He calls her gorgeous but I'll call her 4x2 from here on out. (read the book, you'll know why) With a fresh heartbreak, coming off of a previous heartbreak, Tyler and his sadly abused heart moves to San Diego. He's got a place to live, a buddy to go our trolling with, girls falling at his feet, a great job, yet he couldn't get 4x2 off his mind.

Until one day, at a party, he runs into his 4x2 on the arm of his co-worker, Spencer who introduces her as his girlfriend. Caught in another triangle, will Tyler come out with the girl this time? And what happens when Jules can't handle Tyler's lack of contact? Will she risk everything with Nick in order to repair her friendship with Tyler?

I really enjoyed this book. Emotions ran high, jealousy was rampant and the love was strong. I am anxiously awaiting the 3rd book in the trilogy, although it makes me nervous to see what will happen.

ARC Review: Left Drowning by Jessica Park

What does it take to rise from life’s depths, swim against the current, and breathe?

Weighted down by the loss of her parents, Blythe McGuire struggles to keep her head above water as she trudges through her last year at Matthews College. Then a chance meeting sends Blythe crashing into something she doesn't expect—an undeniable attraction to a dark-haired senior named Chris Shepherd, whose past may be even more complicated than her own. As their relationship deepens, Chris pulls Blythe out of the stupor she’s been in since the night a fire took half her family. She begins to heal, and even, haltingly, to love this guy who helps her find new paths to pleasure and self-discovery. But as Blythe moves into calmer waters, she realizes Chris is the one still strangled by his family’s traumatic history. As dark currents threaten to pull him under, Blythe may be the only person who can keep him from drowning.

Wow.

Just WOW.

Left Drowning.

Crap, I find myself completely overwhelmed trying to write this review.

Jessica Park knocked it out of the... well, park.

I've spent weeks trying to write this review, mostly because I want to just tell you the story and my review would be so full of spoilers, you'd almost not need to read the book. (except you'd still need to because I am no Jessica Park)

Blythe was struggling to live her life. For 4 years, she was only surviving, existing. The death of her parents, the strained relationship with her younger brother, the lack of family support as she moves through her life has caused Blythe to lock herself within.

Chris has become the unofficial head of his family, and feels the heavy responsibility of taking care of his other 3 siblings. When he meets Blythe, he feels the connection to her, in more ways the one. She's a kindred spirit and him and his family adopt Blythe as one of their own. She finally begins to come out of her shell and experience life but there's one missing part. Chris is keeping her at arms length romantically, despite the attraction.

I cried. I laughed. And then I cried some more. But mostly, it was just damn beautiful!

But what if she is too devastated by tragedy to know when he wants more than she should give? And what if there is more to Liam than meets the eyes?

***ARC Provided by publish in exchange for an honest review***

You know those books that you cannot go to sleep until it's finished? It grips you from page one and no matter what is going on tomorrow, the only thing that matters is finishing the book tonight? Well, that's Escaping Reality, which is a fitting title considering that what's happening when I refuse to think of the consequences of staying up until 4:30am to finish this book. (Pssst... I would have stayed up even later had I needed to. Sleep be damned!)

Escaping Reality is about young woman with a very troubled past that causes her to leave her old life behind,  with the help of a mystery handler, and take on a new identity and begin her life anew. Unfortunately, 6 years later, her mystery handler leaves her a note stating that she's in danger, and she's once again thrust into a new identity in a new city.

On the plane to her new destination, she meets Liam. An incredibly sexy billionaire architect who, almost immediately, sees right through her. His ability to see to the core of her, along with her instant attraction to him causes her body and mind go through the crazy hot/cold, push/pull scenarios. Amy immediate feels that Liam is a trustworthy man, but to trust him would put him at risk and that's not something she's willing to do. She tries to push him away but Liam is a force of nature and he always gets what he wants. This time, he wants Amy, and no amount of pushing will push Liam away.

A new job, new neighbor, new landlord, all things Amy should be used to but something just doesn't feel right about her current situation. Add in a domineering, sexy new boyfriend and this story has everything you need.

ARC Review: Complete Me by J Kenner

This sexy, emotionally charged romance continues the story of Damien Stark, the powerful multimillionaire who’s never had to take “no” for an answer, and Nikki Fairchild, the Southern belle who only says “yes” on her own terms.

Our desire runs deep. But our secrets cut close. Beautiful, strong, and commanding, Damien Stark fills a void in me that no other man can touch. His fierce cravings push me beyond the brink of bliss—and unleash a wild passion that utterly consumes us both.

Yet beneath his need for dominance, he carries the wounds of a painful past. Haunted by a legacy of dark secrets and broken trust, he seeks release in our shared ecstasy, the  heat between us burning stronger each day.

Our attraction is undeniable, our obsession inevitable. Yet not even Damien can run from his ghosts, or shield us from the dangers yet to come.

***ARC received in exchange for an honest review***

What a beautiful finish for Nikki and Damien.

After all their battles, Nikki and Damien face the biggest challenge of all time. Damien is being charged with the murder of his former tennis coach, in Germany. Nikki intends to stand by his side and support him through the trial but only Damien holds the key to getting off. Unfortunately his pride will not allow him to come forward. He'd would rather spend his life in jail, then let the world know of the abuse he suffered at his coach's hand.

As it turns out, someone else has evidence of the dirty deeds Damien suffered. Can he find the person with the evidence and contain it before it gets out, all while trying to stay out of jail? All the while, Nikki is being stalked and threatened.

I had some ideas about who the mystery person was with the photos but the twist and turns in this book kept me guessing. Plus, Damien and Nikki are just as HOT as ever. Their love life is completely smoking and leaves you needing a cold shower.

I'm both happy and sad to see an end to this series. Sad because I'll miss the uber sexy Damien Stark but happy because it means that I don't have to sit tied in knots for what their future holds.
